Brexit? I Hardly Drinxit!

Jul 08, 2016

Samuel Adams lager labelThe British Broadcasting Corporation may be tired of Brexit, but another “B.B.C.” isn’t.  On June 24, 2016, the day after the Brexit vote, the Boston Beer Company filed an intent-to-use application to trademark the term “Brexit” for a hard cider.  The Boston Beer Company is, ironically, the maker of Sam Adams beers – you know, that Sam Adams, one of the very anti-British leaders of the American Revolution.

Of course applying for a trademark is just the first step.  It remains to be seen whether the Brexit brew materializes and is actually “used” in commerce to qualify for trademark registration or if it passes muster with the trademark examiner. In the meantime, let’s all raise a pint and hope this Brexit won’t result in as terrible a hangover as the first one.
