Rob Selna Comments on Oakland Moms 4 Housing Policy

Partner Rob Selna recently spoke with The Mercury News regarding a new policy that could shake up the Oakland real estate market. The policies, inspired by the recent Moms 4 Housing standoff, would give tenants or affordable housing nonprofits the first opportunity to buy certain residential properties for market value.

The “right of first refusal” policy has some precedent, Rob says, but it hasn’t been challenged in court. While Oakland is pushing for this policy, Rob states that many other cities are pursuing it as well, with San Francisco and Berkeley making their own similar proposals.
