Environmental Law Experience
Chris provides environmental compliance counseling and represents clients in litigation involving cost recovery, CERCLA, Clean Water Act – stormwater, real estate purchases/sales, drycleaner, UST and industrial pollution claims. She also advises and represents clients before various government regulatory agencies, including the EPA, DTSC, and the RWQCB. For clients selling, acquiring or developing contaminated real property, Chris provides legal advice and oversight of environmental issues, including conducting due diligence audits, evaluating and directing environmental site investigations and overseeing the implementation of remedial action plans, negotiating remediation standards with environmental regulators, and preparing environmental indemnity provisions. In addition, she represents parties in obtaining defense and insurance coverage for environmental claims under property and liability insurance policies.
Employment Law Experience
Chris represents employers, defending wrongful termination and employment discrimination cases in all areas, including sex, age, race, disability discrimination, sexual harassment, and wage and hour disputes. She has also represented employers in administration hearings before the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Workers Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) for Labor Code 132a discrimination claims, the Department of Industrial Relations for wage and hour violations, the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, and Cal OSHA. Chris has presented a great number of employment law seminars for employer groups including the City of Oakland, Northern California Human Resources Council, Oakland Board of Realtors, the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and private employers. She has also advised businesses regarding personnel practices and the preparation of employment manuals.
In addition, Chris is experienced in alternative dispute resolutions and serves as a mediator for the United States District Court, Northern District of California. She has completed the United States District Court, Northern District of California Alternative Dispute Resolution and Early Neutral Evaluation training program and received Bar Association of San Francisco Certificates of Completion for training in mediation and arbitration.
