Alameda County Bar Association Honors Richard Waxman
February 8, 2007 - The Alameda County Bar Association (ACBA), honored Richard Waxman of Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP with a Distinguished Service Award for Individual Lawyer of the Year on On January 18. Waxman, who is a partner in the firm's business and real estate practice groups, was one of three lawyers to receive a Distinguished Service Award during a ceremony held in conjunction with ACBA's Installation of Officers Gala.
Waxman was honored as Lawyer of the Year in appreciation for his dedicated service to ACBA and the community. He served as president of ACBA in 2003, and he has served as president of its Volunteer Legal Services Corporation (VLSC) for the past two years. VLSC provides free legal assistance for various non-criminal issues to low-income residents in Alameda County. Volunteer attorneys provide all the legal work on a pro bono basis. Waxman also currently leads ACBA's Board Nominating Committee, working to identify board members who mirror the diversity of the legal profession and Alameda County. In addition to his committee work, Waxman assisted ACBA in identifying office space for the organization and negotiated the terms of the lease.
"I am very honored to receive this award," Waxman said. "It has been both a pleasure and a very meaningful experience to be part of ACBA and give something back to the community." Waxman represents a large number of medium-sized business owners, including distributors, manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, franchisees, restaurant owners, and general and specialty contractors. He assists clients in all manners of business counseling, including corporate organization, partnerships, limited liability matters, buy/sell agreements, sales and assets of stock, real estate, and employment agreements. In addition, Waxman represents a number of nonprofit organizations, including franchise groups, time-share and condominium associations, and private schools. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law (1978) and a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley (1974).
