Diversity at Wendel Rosen

Wendel Rosen supports a culture of diversity and is committed to the development of all attorneys in the firm. The firm's diversity policy requires all employees to respect differences, be they of age, race, nationality, ethnic group, sexual orientation, physical ability, health status, religion, educational-experience, marital or parental status.

The firm recognizes that the diversity of our work force is a resource, allowing us to tap a broad range of backgrounds, skills, knowledge and experience. The firm is committed to developing and using the diverse talents and energies of all its employees and to recruiting people who reflect the diversity of the United States and the greater Bay Area.

Firm management and administration encourage partners and associates to participate in leadership opportunities in a variety of business and community organizations whose purpose is to enhance the resources available to some of the region's more disenfranchised communities. At the same time, involvement in these organizations helps to develop the leadership skills, networks and resources of our attorneys. The firm is committed to being a good neighbor and a good corporate citizen.

On June 28, 2006, the firm had 55 practicing attorneys. Of those attorneys:

  • 11 % of all firm attorneys are ethnically diverse

  • 26 % of the firm's partners are women.

Wendel Rosen is a signatory to The Bar Association of San Francisco's Diversity Task Force initiative, which has adopted a set of goals and timetables to advance racial and ethnic minorities in the San Francisco Bay Area legal community work force.

Leadership and Diversity Development

Much of the firm's community involvement is focused on organizations that promote the success of diverse groups of individuals within legal, business and geographic communities. Attorneys are encouraged to take leadership positions within organizations for which they have a passion and that encourage the development of a successful and diverse society. In 2006, firm attorneys held the following leadership positions within these diverse organizations:

The Bay Area Minority Summer Clerkship Program
Wendel Rosen has made a substantial commitment over the years to the Bay Area Minority Summer Clerkship Program. The program is a joint project of the Santa Clara County Bar Association (SCCBA), The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF), the Alameda County Bar Association (ACBA) and the Contra Costa Bar Association (CCCBA). Given the historic under-representation of minority lawyers in large law firms, the Program seeks to provide a means for exposing minority law students to large law firms and vice versa. The objective is to establish a vehicle through which participation of minority students in large law firm clerkship programs is increased with the long-term goal of increasing minority hiring. Wendel Rosen has participated in the program since 1993, when the program first expanded to include firms in Alameda County. Wendel Rosen attorneys were among the original organizers of the program through the Alameda County Bar Association, one of whom served as a co-chair of the Bay Area Minority Summer Clerkship Program in the early 1990s. We continue to participate to this day.
